Wearables are not dead
January 10th, 2017 | Opinion, Smartwatches, Wearables
People often make huge judgements on tech solely from the headline. The growing claim that "wearables are dead" I've found in stories in the media and my conversations with other tech people just feels incredibly shortsighted. Wearables aren't dead or dying. Here's why.
6 incredible smartwatch hacks
December 27th, 2016 | Opinion, Smartwatches, Wearables
Smartwatches are actually pretty incredible things. We are in an age where we can wear relatively powerful computers on our wrists (a very cool age indeed!). This has lead to inevitable smartwatch hackery by some very talented people who've run the unexpected on their smartwatches. Here are six of my favourites, along with some links to how you could get started doing your own tinkering!
What happened with Pebble and what will happen to its developer community?
December 20th, 2016 | Smartwatches, Wearables
Pebble's announcement that they were shutting down and being partially bought by Fitbit has brought mixed emotions. Thomas Sarlandie on Pebble Time development
August 31st, 2015 | Interviews, Smartwatches, Wearables
The Pebble smartwatch is one of my personal favourite platforms to play around with as a developer. Developing for a small smartwatch with limited colours and CPU is a whole new ballgame compared to developing for other platforms like smartphones and the web! The Pebble Time has a certain retro vibe to it that makes it a lot of fun to develop for. Thomas Sarlandie from Pebble is one of its very eager and passionate Developer Evangelists. He's got plenty of knowledge on the Pebble ecosystem and all of their recent developments and is also a really lovely guy! I asked him a few questions on developing for the Pebble Time.
